Campervanning Around Scotland

Heading back to Scotland is something I've wanted to do as soon as I've got back, and thankfully we go to travel around the beautiful Scottish Highlands at the start of June.

Vanning is something we've certainly fallen in love with and the dogs are taking to it so well, until we can afford one of our own, we've been hiring lots of different campers in different locations. Truly getting an idea of what we love, the size and space we need and what I'm comfortable to drive too.

Campervanning around Scotland was really the perfect way to see it, with the stunning roads, gorgeous mountains and beautiful views.

Our Van
This time we hired a VW T4 called Shug from Wild Campers Scotland, a beautiful blue pop-top camper. Shug was the perfect transport to get us around the highlands, and the dogs loved it.

Finding the pop top area a little smaller than newer VW Campers we've tried previously, we decided to make the bed up down stairs each night, and actually was totally find doing so although I always prefer not to. It also meant we go to experience some stunning views from the back door, whilst parking up.

Where we Visited
We had both campsites booked as well as parked up for the night in laybys and parking spots, mainly found on Park 4 Night. The main places we visited during our 7 night trip were Cairngorms National Park, Glencoe, and then over to Skye. We really loved the Cairngorms and would go back again and again, the Isle of Skye didn't blow me away, however the weather really did turn once over there. Leaving early we then headed down to The Trossachs for our last night, which I would be keen to explore more of. On our next trip we'd visit more of the smaller islands and further around the North coast of Scotland too.

The places we loved to see on this trip included Craigevar Castle, Loch Uaine, Loch Eileen, Three sisters in Glencoe, Bealach na Ba [both amazing and scary in the fog] The Ben Nevis Range and The Harry Potter Bridge

Tips for Staying in a Camper with Dogs
> Bring extra towels and blankets for any soggy dogs or if it rains
> Dog robes and fleeces are great for this too
> Packing wipes or other cleaning items can really help keep it feeling fresh and clean, as sand and dust gets everywhere
> Using a harness & seatbelts is a great way for them to travel, and also to keep them on the floor/restrained whilst parked up in the van
> Try and stick to a similar routine with eating and sleeping as you do at home, routine will help the dogs settle more
> Remember to bring chews and enrichment toys to help any stress or worry they may have to start with and keeps them occupied at campsites
