The Royal Oak, Wiltshire

Getting away to the Countryside is such a perfect thing, especially when the dogs are by your side.
Adventuring to new places, finding fun walks and staying at sweet pubs makes it even more of a perfect countryside getaway.

This week we were invited by Visit Wiltshire, to stay at the sweet little pub. The Royal Oak, located near Salisbury in Wiltshire, but very much in the middle of no where.

Although exploring far and wide, with everything dog friendly in our sites, finding places close to home is just as wonderful. Less than an hour away, driving past Stonehenge and through country lanes, we find the sweet pub with rooms, The Royal Oak.

Dog Friendly Hotel
The Royal Oak is a great dog friendly place to visit, just for Lunch, Saturday Brunch, a quick drink or to fully take in the Wiltshire Countryside with a stay.
Dogs are welcomed in the bar area, as well as the dining area. The conservatory area is off limits, but will so many other areas available to Sev and Lily, this was never an issue. Having both dinner and breakfast in the dining area, and feeling so cosy with the refurbished but traditional pub atmosphere.
The pub has a garden, great for the late night and early morning outings with the dogs, and although the bedroom was upstairs it was quick and easy to get out onto the grass.

The hotel mentions cleaning your pooch off in a near by stream, and drying by the fire. Sadly we saw no fire blazing, even with it being Autumn, but that certainly would have made it extra cosy in the Countryside.

The Bedroom
The Royal Oak offer a dog friendly bedroom, but due to it being unavailable we stayed somewhere else. They dog have towels, bowls and beds but these must be requested before your stay and the hotel appreciate that most dog owners bring their own.
The bedroom was large, and perfect for a long or short stay. With areas to hang coats, and stomp off muddy walking boats [and even dry off soggy spaniels]. The bedroom was large with the comfiest king size bed, both sleeping so well, and feeling ready for another walk around a near by woods that we found the day before.

The Food
Even with the best known restaurants, I find pubs just have my heart when it comes to food, and The Royal Oak was no exception. The dinner menu was great with something for everyone, I went for the pork belly while Sam enjoyed the venison burger. Sev and Lily even got some treats at the table, being very much welcomed and looked after while we were there.

For breakfast there was a small buffet with toast and cereals, whilst being able to pick from the menu. Sam went for the full English, and I slightly changed the menu choice up with toast, avocado, eggs and [the most amazing] crispy bacon.

Near by Walks
Just up the road we found the perfect woodland walk. With long grass, trees and a whole lot of fun and smells for Sev and Lily. Just past the village hall we found a by way and followed past fields of sheep, into forests and along the gorgeous Countryside. Having a walk so close was great, and tired the dogs out before heading back for a drink and to dry off.
